Paul T. Whesseh, MD

Paul T. WhessehI, Paul Topayoun Whesseh, was born in 1965, on August 14, unto the union of Mr. & Mrs. Gardea Whesseh in Lower Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, Liberia. I began my kindergarten in Monrovia after adoption by my aunt, Salomoh Davis in 1965, and completed elementary school at the Elementary Demonstration School, Buchanan in 1978. I graduated from the James Johnson & Ramey Haider Academy, where I earned my High School Diploma.

My quest for higher education made me to enrolled at the University of Liberia with Biology as major. I graduated with BSc 1992. Entered the AM Dogliotti College of Medicine and graduated as member of the 2002 class.

My internship was completed at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center. I worked with Medicines Sans Frontier (MSF) France Emergency Hospital in Monrovia from 2003-2004.

Later moved to Ganta United Methodist Hospital in 2004. Also important to mention is that I was doing my internship in surgery at the Ganta U. M. Hospital in 2003 when the city was attacked on March 29, 2003. We all fled to the mining town of Yekepa and drove for 12 hrs. to get to Monrovia after 3 weeks of stay at Yekepa.

I saw myself in Buchanan in July 2003 when Monrovia was attacked by the Liberia United for Reformation and Democracy (LURD) rebels. Three days after we (family) moved to Buchanan, the city was attacked by the MODEL rebels. An agonizing and terrible 3 months spent in Buchanan under a curfew that ran from 4:pm to 10:AM. Massive looting, arm robbery, rape, and killings were the order of the day. I got a taste of the arm gang when a bunch of them broke down our door at 1:AM in the morning to loot. By the grace of God, no one was killed.

During the start of the civil crisis in 1990, I was displaced in Gbapolu County. We had to walk for 3 days through terror and fear. I finally left Liberia for La Cote d’voire as a refugee. I later returned to Liberia in 1992 to complete my undergraduate studies.

I am happily married to Verlyn with four children. The first kid, Jude is 21 yrs. and a 2nd year student at the Cuttington University College (CUC) where is reading Biology. He wants to study medicine after undergraduate studies.

I accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ as my Savior in 1978 and was baptized in 1979, in the World Wide Mission Church of Liberia. I am serving presently as Assistant Pastor for my church.

My plans are to serve my people through the healing ministry and seek opportunities for further studies –MPH.
