Online Auction Underway

The 2006 Adopt a Doctor Online Auction is underway. Five items are up for grabs this year with winning bids directly benefiting the organization. All proceeds will support AAD and its efforts in ensuring healthcare for people in some of the world’s poorest nations. The auction runs through Sunday, Feb. 26 with bids closing at 1 p.m. Please send bids and/or inqueries to Ray Rickman, ray@adoptadoctor.org

Item #1: Try your hand with a one mid-week (Sunday-Thursday) overnight stay at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. The package includes overnight stay for two at the Grant Pequot Tower and dinner for two at Cedars Steakhouse. The package is valued at $300. Bids open at $90.

Item #2: Tempt your tastebuds with a $50 gift certificate for dinner at McCormick & Schmick’s, Providence’s premiere seafood restaurant. There are two certificates available (individually) and they are valid through Dec. 1, 2006. Bids open at $40.

Item #3: Experience a unique historical experience at Old Sturbridge Village — a New England gem situated in Sturbridge, Mass. The package includes complimentary admission for two adults. Admission, valued at $40, includes access to the museum village, tavern dining, the shops and lodges. Bids open at $15.

Item #4: Become a member of The Harvard Museum of Natural History. The household membership offers free admission, for two adults and accompanying children under 18, to HMNH, the Peabody Museum and the Harvard University Art Museums. The package, valued at $60, also includes members-only invitations to special exhibations and events, reading room access at the Ernst Mayr Library at the Museum of Comparative Zoology or the Harvard University Herbaria Botany libraries. Members are also entitled to a 10 percent discount on merchandise at the museum gift shop and/or children’s birthday parties. Bids open at $15.

Item #5: Adorn your home or office with a beautiful piece of Jewish influenced artwork (see graphic below). “Prayer for the Home,” donated by artist Betsy Platkin Teutsch, features striking color and inspirational messages. Bids open at $15.
